Following on from the solid releases of ‘Dialect Drum’ and ‘ALAMETRU’ singles this year, Melbourne songwriter and musician Dinosaur Beard is releasing another lush and epic banger in
‘By Design’ on Fri Dec 20th.
In bringing ‘By Design’ into fruition, Dinosaur Beard reunited with collaborator and engineer Aaron Dobos (The Avalanches, Ceres) in recording at Melbourne’s Fallback Studios. The end result proves to be a mish-mash of synthy electro-pop underpinned by sentimental folk blues, playing perfectly into the energy the artist brings to both recorded and live material.
Continuing to explore his own unique sound, Dinosaur Beard’s songwriting flourishes further with ‘By Design’ - guitars and electronics marry together perfectly, while his vocals hypnotise over a hip-shaking disco beat. Delving into a more dance driven ‘Phoenix’ vibe for this release.
He pulled on many different influences musically and socially on the formation of ‘By Design’, Dinosaur Beard ruminates on the current issues facing his generation. “I was getting caught up in the daily frustrations that all of us seem to be experiencing more and more these days. The pettiness of the political landscape and the ever growing divide we feel with the older generation, I came up with the hook ‘why don’t you say something cause tonight means nothing’ as a way of trying to express that feeling. And also our lessening ability to properly connect and express our true feelings to each other in our current social media age of seperation ” Dinosaur Beard
A true lover of the craft of making music and constructing songs, Dinosaur Beard will be celebrating the release of ‘By Design’ by playing a afternoon set at ‘The Tramway Hotel’ on Sat Jan 11 with support from Will Ewing.
