GASPAR SANZ
Gaspar Sanz are thrilled to share their latest single ‘Meanderthal’ today, marking the beginning of what is set to be an exciting and defining year for the quartet. ‘Meanderthal’ delivers the band’s 80's and 90's influenced sound in its most refined form yet, drawing influence from the likes of The Strokes, The Hives, and The Kinks. The single is lifted from the band’s forthcoming EP on Helium Records.
Recorded in between Parliament Studios and the band’s home studio, ‘Meanderthal’ evolved with the help of Grammy award winner Tim Palmer’s mixing, mastering by Chris Athens (US) and Phan Sjarif’s production and engineering.
After graduating a year apart and each making their own separate ways to Sydney in 2011, drummer Sammy Devenport (formerly of Tame Impala and Mink Mussel Creek) and vocalist Jimmy Bell reconnected, and started playing music together while pursuing acting careers.
What started off as a hobby in between acting gigs, started to get more serious with the addition of bass player Dom Coulton, who met Sammy through bartending, and other WAAPA alumni, guitarist Jesse Lawrence.
After playing in various incarnations, covering a wide array of musical genres ranging from pop to folk, the band settled on a sound, name and style which culminated in their self-titled debut EP in 2017.
In 2018, the band followed up with the release of ‘Scene Of The Crime’ and ‘I Swim’, which earned #1 on the indie charts and #3 on the overall charts at triple j Unearthed for three consecutive weeks. During this time, the band continued to play shows around Sydney, headlining venues such as Oxford Art Factory and perfecting their energetic and incredibly engaging live set.
